One Shade Darker: Week 4-6

Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away, and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray.

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,

Howdie doodie? I hope all is good in the hood and you are all having great days full of love and laughter.

It has been a while since I blogged and I am guilty as charged! I fell in the trap of “I have too much to do and no time” even though it was NOT the case. I was lazy and I am not too happy about that. But but but, I am back and yay to that. *Please pretend happiness*

*Queue applause*

Moving on, my last few weeks have been full of tales to tell. The Mister and I took a trip to Melbourne, we had a little episode of a “blackout” in the apartment, we saw a hindi movie and much much more so keep on reading.

Now, blackouts as a part of my Indian upbringing is common. We have one every week back in India if not more, for reals. So when we had one in Australia, I just had a smile on my face cause it did bring a little bit of home back to me, but this is NOT common here and so the drama of the midnight blackout unfolded. It was quite funny. Also, the building managers were pretty clueless of how to fix the “mess” but to be fair it was 3 am and only hoteliers, their wives and people suffering from insomnia are up at that hour. Just to be clear, we are not insomniacs. Anywho, so that was the tale of my first blackout in Aussie land. Yay. *Update: Peace was restored the next morning and then there was light*

*Fast forward to a week*

Trips to anywhere make me happy. I am like that doggy of yours who see’s the leash and knows you are taking it for a walk. Oh the excitement!! So off we went, on our way to Canberra (our first stop on the way to Melbourne). Canberra is lovely, a lot like Chandigarh (if you are Indian you’d know that reference) it is a city planned so well with wide roads and rules. Many rules. It is also VERY COLD. My thermostat detects cold very soon, I shiver and goosebumps appear pretty drastically and Canberra was cold. Brrrrrr…

After a pit stop at Canberra we woke up at an ungodly hour in the morning and set out for Melbourne and it was LONGGGGGG. An 8 hour drive to be precise. Yes. 8 hours. Now, if you have the right company, it can amaze. I did. So for me, 8 hours were pretty awesome, even though for the 8 hours the scenery did NOT change at all. I think even the clouds were the same. We did sight Koalas in the wild though, so YAY!!

Melbourne was absolutely gorgeous. Our first night there, we watched a hindi movie and that is a BIG deal for an Indian in a foreign country I tell you. I was stoked. The next day was all about exploring the coastline and we walked along the Mornington Peninsula at Brighton beach where there were rows of coloured beach houses and dogs running amok on the beach enjoying themselves to the fullest. What a beautiful day.

Day 2 in Melbourne was a city tour. Thanks to a friend who took the time out and showed us all the spots. We walked the colourful Hosier Lane, visited the docklands, climbed up 88 floors to the Eureka Skydeck, ate at an Indian joint called Chilli India (yummy food), rode the trams, explored the CBD and finally ended up at the Transport Bar for sun downers.

The drive back wasn’t so eventful, except for the time where we almost ran out of Petrol with the nearest gas station 40 kilometers away! That was intense. The Mister and I were just patting our baby (car) and wishing and praying it doesn’t stop in the middle of nowhere. Happy to report, it did not. We ended up in a small town called Gunning with our baby cars tummy full and also met a very cute old gentleman who cleaned our windshield for us.

What followed was a week of normalcy and interviews. I met a gentleman who had read my previous blogs and warned him he could feature in the next. So, here is a special mention to that French Monsieur who din’t give me a job but did say i write well. Merci and no hard feelings even though a job would have been great. (I am kidding. Not.)

Back in the city we also tried out the famous (I think) Indian Pakistani joint, Cheema Ka Dhaba where the feels of being back home were UP THERE. If you are in Sydney and craving some Indian food and ambiance, do hit this place in Granville. I am serious. You will find men tearing into chicken, and talking real loud. Really. Also, Taste of Tangra in Lakemba is a must if you are craving for some “Indian Chinese” they are pretty amaze too.

Since, I have established I am all for trying new places (all thanks to the husband) a special Mention for Cafe Shenkin where we ate recently. It is an Israeli cafe serving some of the most delicious food I have eaten in Sydney. It is a must if you are looking for something “different”. A full review on all the restaurants shall be coming up soon on the blog so stay tuned.

Last but not the least, I also mustered up the courage and started my own Youtube channel where I rant more often than not. So check the link here.

Thats it from me, folks.
