Eat the dessert first. ~ Manasvi

Hello Everybody!
How art thou? How is life and most importantly what did you eat for dessert?
If you are “not a dessert person” then get ready to be converted. No no, there is no need to look away, this is a dessert which can also be categorized as Salad. I swear.
So, on a rainy Sydney day I heard from a friend about “The most instagrammed cake” in Australia. Obviously I was intrigued and thanks to her, I my rainy day was not gloomy anymore. I had found purpose in life. I know, its sad. Moving onnnnn…
The next weekend, I sprinted like I never had, troubled the mister endless and got ready to head to the city which is 40 minutes away just to get this cake in my tummy! It is a bit of a problem with me, I must try out everything interesting in the World one bite at a time and that is just what I set out to do.
Now, I am a loyal chocolate lover. All my desserts consist of chocolates and here I was a bit skeptical because this one from the looks of it on Instagram was all about fruits (which I like some days and hate most) and cream (which gives me a muffin top tummy, yay not). YET, I braved the cold winds and went the distance. Okay, that was slightly dramatic. *sigh*
The cafe is a part of a book shop called Kinokuniya in the Galleries on George Street, Sydney. First impression, awesome!! I love books and I love a good cup of coffee and a slice of cake in one place. It is the perfect combination. A big tick on the first go.

As I approached the counter of The Black Star Pastry, I saw the beauty everyone was talking about. There it sat in all its glory, magnificent and beautiful beyond words. The Strawberry and Watermelon Cake, topped with rose petals and strawberries (obviously). I WAS SOLD but a bit skeptical about the taste. Would it be one of those instances where I build up on the hope and then it shatters? Or would it be all everyone said it would be?
One slice ordered, we waited for a table which was almost impossible to find since the place was full. Oh, I had dragged our friend along since the Mister is not into desserts and so we waited patiently for a table. It was painful cause all I wanted to do was DIG IN, but I also wanted to take photographs so I resisted the urge. Oh, my selflessness when it comes to this blog and making sure you guys don’t miss out on anything. Oh! (Yes, I killed modesty in the back alley. Shhhh) To kill time while we waited to be seated, we went ahead and got some hot chocolate which came in the prettiest paper cups!

So yes, fast forward, found a place after much hounding. Sat down and admired this beauty, clicked a gazzilion photos and loved the fact that I could see books in the background. Ah! Favorite things. Blessed life. Then came the time to dig in. *DRUM ROLLS*
A closer look at the slice of heaven and I saw a large chunk of watermelon. I was convinced that this was not a dessert at all, it was a fruit salad. My “get abs soonest” mind was happy with that and then came the taste test.

I cannot begin to tell you how yummy this slice of heaven was. It was light, it was fresh, it was drool worthy and it was a piece of cloud in my mouth. The strawberries and watermelon rendered the freshness, the cream, rose syrup and petals rendered sweetness and the cracker base was that crunchiness you desire.
A perfect bite. I was in cake heaven.
What followed was gluttony. Pure and simple. We even got a truffle cake slice and it was delicious. As we started to leave, I got a slice packed for the Mister, who truth be told just had one bite and I gobbed up the rest. Not intentional, I did not plan that. Ahem. Not at all. *hehe*

Black Star Pastry, I love you. Pure love, man. See you soonly.
And Sydney, you make me fat with all the amazing things you have to offer but I shall do more crunches to gobble on some more yumminess.
That is it from me guys, let me know if you love desserts as much as I do and if you have tried the Black Star Pastry yet!
Until next time!!
Stay tangled. xx
